 2023 Preview 


       Oak Grove completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Oak Grove finished sixth in Class 4A region five with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2016. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 42-89. Their 32.1% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 114-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A and 248th in the AHSAA.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Chris Musso who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Oak Grove. The Tigers saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Musso arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Musso. Over the course of his career, Coach Musso's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times .

       The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season.

       The Tigers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent White Plains on Friday, September 1 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the White Plains Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 4A region four. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Westbrook Christian by a score of 47-27.

       Oak Grove and White Plains have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-0-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Oak Grove winning by a score of 27-25.
